Operation Fiela: Festive Season Operations yields results

As part of delivering on the mandate of ensuring that the community is safe during this period, operations conducted yielded results when 667 suspects were arrested between Tuesday 22 December and Sunday 27 December 2015 for different crimes.

Out of these suspects, 564 were arrested through day-to-day policing and other operations, while 103 were arrested through operation Fiela-Reclaim conducted in Vryburg, Huhudi, Pudimoe, and Hebron by the South African Police Service and other role players since 24 until 27 December 2015.   

The apprehended suspects include: 198 for contact crimes, 34 for property-related crimes, 39 for drug-related crimes, three for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, 14 for possession of suspected stolen goods, 21 for driving under influence of alcohol or drugs, and 204 for liquor-related offences. A total of 828 fines were issued, mainly for traffic offences.

The operation led to the confiscation of items such as drugs, including 1.5 kilograms of dagga, three firearms, 15 sheep, 918 of litres of liquor including concoction and various electrical appliances. The suspects are due to appear in courts in various parts of the province on Monday, 28 December 2015.  

The operations will continue in the province to ensure stability and that the community is safe during the festive season as part of operation “Fiela-Reclaim”.
