Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries briefs media on launch of planting season, 7 Oct

National launch of the planting season

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in partnership with the Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will host a media briefing to kick start the launch of the planting season known as “Food Security Month”.

The launch, a national initiative by DAFF and provinces will showcase the state of readiness of the planting season countrywide. This year’s launch will be commemorated under the theme, “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too” and is an ongoing partnership aimed at elevating the level of awareness on food security issues in communities.

The media briefing will also unpack relief efforts underway to address the province’s on-going dry season. 

The first session of the day, will see DAFF Deputy Minister General Bheki Cele and Free State MEC Mr Oupa Khoabane engage with the farmers, followed by the launch of the planting season and the media briefing.

Programme of the day:

  • 6h00 - Engagement with the farmers
  • 7h30 - Launch of the planting season and hand over of farming implements
  • 8h30 - Media briefing
