Follow up oversight visit to Madibeng Local Municipality by Portfolio Committee on water and sanitation
The Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation will visit Madibeng Local Municipality on 20 – 22 September 2016 to carry out a follow-up on its oversight visit, conducted on 23 September 2014.
Following its earlier oversight visit undertaken, the Committee noted and appreciated various infrastructure projects underway such as the R63.7 million Waste Water Infrastructure Refurbishment Project, as well as refurbishment of water supply pumps at various areas.
The Portfolio Committee noted the few challenges that remained that required further action. Of importance to the continuing oversight is the tracking of progress of the upgrade of pump stations at the Rietfontein Sewage Plant.
The Committee further wishes to investigate the extent of water supply and sanitation interventions within local municipalities in the Bojanala District, namely Rusternburg, Moses Kotane, Moretele and Kgetleng Rivier, and to meet with the Chambers of Mines as well as mining houses.
