North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo wants to see young people in his province claiming their rightful place in the world.
Addressing over 200 young people who completed the week-long Youth Camp at the 2 South African Infantry Battalion in Zeerust this morning, Mahumapelo said his wish was to see young people becoming employers and not employees.
“I came up with the idea that we must have Youth Entrepreneurship Services (YES) because I would like to see young people in the North West conquering the world. You must use whatever that God has given you to the best of your ability. YES is about young people becoming entrepreneurs, employers and not employees,” said Mahumapelo.
Colonel Bruce Motlhoki of the South African National Defence Force, which partnered with the Office of the Premier to organise the Youth Camps, said they were very proud to present to the Premier trained, knowledgeable and better skilled youth.
“You completed the most rigorous training and passed the test with flying colours. You have been given the opportunity to make something for yourself — the opportunity to learn, grow and lead. You are the future of our country and you have the ability to accomplish great things,” said Colonel Motlhoki.
One of the young people who completed the Youth Camp training Tlotlo Sekgoleo had this to say: “We are really blessed to have this kind of camps. We have benefited a lot. Some of us came from different families with different morals and values but when we gathered here we learnt to behave like children from one family.”
Premier Mahumapelo was accompanied by his special advisor on Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal Bishop Khunou, the Mayor of Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality Simon Senna, Mayor of Moses Kotane Local Municipality Fetsang Mokati and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality Executive Mayor Justice Makolomakwa, among others.
The Youth Camps are coordinated by the Youth Entrepreneurship Services (YES) in the Office of the Premier and are essentially aimed at addressing the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequalities affecting youth in the Province.
Previous Youth Camps were successfully held in Potchefstroom and the next Youth Camp is scheduled to be held in Mahikeng during the month of July.
