North West Legislature Portfolio Committee on Roads, Transport and Community Safety appeals for calm in Coligny and commends the Police for sterling job in maintaining peace in the midst of violent unrests

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Roads, Transport and Community Safety, Hon. Wendy Matsemela commended  the police for maintaining peace in Coligny in the midst of violent unrest that erupted after the magistrate granted bail to two farmers accused of killing 16-year-old Mathlomola Mosweu on April 20.

Protests erupted as Coligny residents received word that the two men accused of murder were released on bail.

Hon Matsemela said the Committee is happy with the way the police managed to restore calm in the area. “We further say let the police continue to do the sterling work of working tirelessly to calm the situation in Coligny. We also believe that government will further emphasize the programme of Reconciliation Healing and Renewal, to assist in dealing with the scourge of racism raging in our province,” said Hon. Matsemela.
