Police hosts National Medal Parade in Pretoria West, 2 Dec

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lt Gen JK Phahlane, cordially invites the media to the National Medal Parade.

The following medals will be awarded to senior members of the organisation:

  • Centenary Medal: A Centenary medal may be awarded to a member of the SAPS, a Reservist or a Civilian employee of the Service who has served in the Service and who is still in the employment of the Service on 2013-04-01 and who has displayed an irreproachable character.
  • Gold Cross for Bravery: The Gold Cross for Bravery medal may be awarded to a member of the SAPS who has distinguished himself or herself by performing an outstanding deed of bravery in extremely dangerous circumstances.
  • Commendation Medal: The SAPS Commendation Medal may be awarded to a member of the SAPS who has distinguished himself or herself by rendering services of a particular meritorious or exemplary nature, and risked his or her life in protecting property or saving lives in dangerous circumstances.
  • 20 Year Loyal Service Medal: The SAPS Twenty Year Loyal Service medal may be awarded to a member of the SAPS who has served for a period of at least 20 years (not necessarily continuous) and has displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct.
  • 30 Year Loyal Service Medal: The SAPS Thirty Year Loyal Service medal may be awarded to a member of the SAPS who has served for a period of at least 30 years (not necessarily continuous) and has displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct.
  • Gold Medal for Outstanding Service (SOEG): The SOEG Medal for Outstanding Service may be awarded to a member of the SAPS, who holds the rank of Major General, and who has distinguished himself or herself by rendering services of a particular meritorious or exemplary nature, or distinguished himself or herself through outstanding resourcefulness, leadership and sense of duty and by setting an example in any branch of the SAPS: Provided that members must be evaluated for a period of five years preceding the appointment in their current rank, in accordance with the aforementioned criteria.
  • Silver Medal for Outstanding Service (SOES): The SOES Medal for Outstanding Service may be awarded to a member of the SAPS, who holds any rank up to that of a Brigadier, and who has distinguished himself or herself by rendering services of a particular meritorious or exemplary nature, or distinguished himself or herself through outstanding resourcefulness, leadership and sense of duty and by setting an example in any branch of the SAPS: Provided that members must be evaluated for a period of five years preceding the appointment in their current rank, in accordance with the aforementioned criteria.
