Public Works trains EPWP participants, 23 Aug

Public Works provides personal finance management training to EPWP participants

In a bid to encourage the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) participants to use their wages wisely, the Department of Public Works (DPW) through the EPWP has partnered with the Financial Services Board (FSB) to provide 5000 participants with training in personal finance management.

The Deputy Director General of EPWP, Mr Stanley Henderson accompanied by Senior Management at FSB will on Tuesday, 23 August 2016 visit one of the training sites in Vereeniging, Gauteng.

About the Training

The National Department of Public Works (NDPW) through the EPWP Branch has partnered with the Financial Services Board (FSB) to provide personal financial education to 5 000 EPWP participants. FSB contracted Investment Wise as a Training Provider to offer training to EPWP participants across all 4 EPWP Sectors in 4 provinces namely, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga.

The training which is non-accredited will be provided in half a day between 8am to 12 noon.

The training aims at improving the financial literacy of the EPWP participants by assisting them to:

  • Distinguish between needs and wants
  • Compile a monthly budget
  • Manage debt
  • Saving methods.

In Gauteng, the number of participants to be trained is 994.

The EPWP is a government initiative aimed at alleviating poverty and unemployment through the provision of short term to medium term work opportunities thereby providing income to the poor and unemployed South Africans.
