Police arrest murder suspects in Gauteng

Murder suspects nabbed in Gauteng

The Uthukela Cluster Crime Intelligence unit played a vital role in the tracing of five suspects alleged to be involved in cases of murder and attempted murder that occurred at the Stulwane area, Bergville.

The five men aged between 25 and 35 were recently arrested in Gauteng. On 30 May 2016, police officers from Bergville SAPS and Newcastle Public Order Police were assisted by Katlehong Tactical Response Team in tracing the suspects. Upon intelligence, the group was tracked, traced and all five arrested in a house at Sebokeng in the Gauteng province.

During the arrest, police seized an unlicensed Vektor Z88 pistol and 18 live rounds of ammunition as well as explosives. They are currently facing charges in Gauteng relating to the possession of the firearm, ammunition and explosives. Arrangements are currently underway to bring them to our province to face Bergville murder and attempted murder charges. They will be charged for five counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

They are facing murder charges where members of related families were attacked and killed from December 2015 to May 2016. These attacks are suspected to be faction fights that are on-going at the Situlwane reserve. Suspects will be investigated further to ascertain if they can be linked to other attacks in the area. The recovered firearm will be taken for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the attacks.

Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa applauded police on their dedication in tracking down the suspects in their hideout. “Investigators will thoroughly investigate the cases so that they can send fully prepared dockets to court for prosecution,” he said.
