Home Affairs hosts Mkhaya Migrants Awards in Johannesburg, 11 Dec

The nominees for the Mkhaya Migrants Awards 2016 to be held at Montecasino on Sunday, 11 December 2016 have been finalised.

The Department of Home Affairs launched the Mkhaya Migrants Awards in 2015 to promote the building of a united, democratic and prosperous society where citizens, residents and migrants live together in peace and harmony.

The awards are an enabler of tolerance, social cohesion and integration. They are a cultural expression of the national resolve to create communities wherein citizens and migrants work together for peace and friendship.

Categories include Sports, Arts and Culture, Business, Civil Society/NGO, OR Tambo and Most Integrated Community. Mamelodi Sundowns and Zimbabwean soccer star; Khama Billiat, Generations and Zimbabwean actress, Chiedza Mhende; Tanzanian singer/songwriter, Ali Kiba; Ghanaian philantropist, Matthew Mensah; and human rights activist, Kgothatso Mokoena are amongst the nominees.

The Mkhaya Migrants Awards 2016 will be broadcast live on SABC Channel 404 on DSTV from 19h00 to 21h00.
