MEC Alan Winde bikes to work

To kick-start Bike2Work Week tomorrow morning (10 October 2016), Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, will cycle to Cape Town’s city centre.

This initiative is part of the Bike2Work campaign co-launched by the Stellenbosch Municipality, which takes place between 10 to 14 October. In Stellenbosch, partners include Eikestad Nuus and the Pedal Power Association.

MEC Winde will be departing from Durbanville at the start of peak hour traffic.

MEC Winde encouraged residents to join the movement by cycling from their homes to their workplaces on Monday morning.

“I’d like as many people as possible to join the Bike2Work movement this week. We already have riders cycling in from Athlone, Hout Bay, Newlands and Melkbosstrand. I’ve been attending the Mobility Indaba this week, and we’re looking at the challenges around how people move through the region. It has a direct impact on the economy, and we know that problems like road congestion and train delays also come at great emotional cost for commuters.”

MEC Winde will depart from Durbanville at 6am. The finish line will be at KFM’s Green Point studios.

All residents who participate in Monday’s Bike2Work ride can leave their homes at 6am. Riders are encouraged join the event on Twitter and Facebook by announcing where they will be cycling from, including the #Bike2WorkCPT hashtag.
