Minister Des van Rooyen lauds the progress made by Emfuleni Local Municipality under the leadership of Yunus Chamda
The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), honourable Des van Rooyen commended the progress made by the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) which is one of three local municipalities comprising the Sedibeng District in Gauteng and it is to the west of the District.
Since 1 May 2016, the Municipal Manager of the Sedibeng District Municipality, Mr Yunus Chamda, has been seconded to act as the Municipal Manager of Emfuleni Local Municipality until December 2016. He has been seconded to the ELM to help turnaround the municipality’s fortunes as it is facing a number of challenges, including billing issues, administrative and other service delivery obstacles.
As a veteran in the field of Local Government and having previously held various positions during his previous stints at the ELM as Speaker and Mayor. Since then, Mr Chamda has been hard at work bringing the required changes to the municipality and ensuring that it serves communities better.
We believe that his experience and knowledge in the local government sector will assist to turn the municipality around to ensure that it serves the communities better. To this effect, he has since taking office, been able to mobilise officials behind the key and strategic objectives set by the ELM municipality.
As a dedicated servant of the people and with such extensive experience we are thankful and delighted that the Municipal Manager has agreed to an annual remuneration of R1.9 million which is in line with the latest regulations that regulate the salaries to be paid to Municipal Managers across the country.
“I appreciate the energy and commitment of the Municipal Manager, the entire staff and all other role players geared to ensuring that we have a problem free administration that works like a one oiled machine which is at the cutting edge of service delivery”, said Minister van Rooyen.
