Minister Jeff Radebe addresses second Commonwealth Conference on Youth Work, 8 Mar

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Jeff Radebe, will deliver the keynote address at the official opening of the second Commonwealth Conference on Youth Work 2016.

This conference is expected to bring together an estimated 300 participants drawn from the 53 Commonwealth member governments.

This Commonwealth Conference on Youth Work comes at the appropriate time in the South African context, following the adoption of the National Youth Policy 2020, which speaks on the role that youth work must do to help unlock the potential of our youth.

The theme for this year’s conference, which will take place from the 8th until the 10th of March, is, “Engaging Youth People in Nation Building – the Youth Workers’ Role”. The sub-themes in the conference will be on Youth Work and Professional Recognition; Education and Training of Youth Workers; Concepts and Practice of Youth Work; Creating Collective Strength through Association for Youth Work Professionals; Certification and Licensing of Youth Workers.

This conference builds on the inaugural one hosted by South Africa in 2013; the hosting will from henceforth rotate amongst all other Commonwealth member states.

Members of the media are invited to the opening.
