In response to the recent spate of femicides in South Africa, the Minister of Science and Technology (DST), Naledi Pandor, will host a round-table discussion on gender-based violence in an attempt to end the scourge in the country.
The panel discussion will focus on research conducted on the subject by the Human Sciences Research Council and other institutions, such as the Medical Research Council and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The DST is holding the round-table discussion to initiate a national conversation in this regard, with a focus on adolescent perpetrators and victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
The debate themed "Gender-based Violence: Adolescent victims and offenders: reflection on evidence and practice”, will bring together key stakeholders working on issues related to gender-based violence. The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Ms Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, including researchers, academics, practitioners, policy-makers and activists from around the country.

- Prof. Rachel Jewkes, Medical Research Council
- Rev. Bafana Khumalo, Sonke Gender Justice
- Prof. Priscilla Reddy, Human Sciences Research Council
- Dr Marcel Londt, University of the Western Cape, and Director of the Child Abuse Therapeutic and Training Service
- Ms Lebogang Ramafoko, Soul City Institute for Social Justice
