Minister Michael Masutha briefs media on Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill, 24 Oct

The Minister  of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv Michael Masutha, will brief the media on progress in the development of the Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill and other departmental initiatives to deal with the ills of, among others, racial intolerance, racism, homophobia and xenophobia which continue to plague our society. 

Our country has recently experienced an increase in the manifestation of hate speech and hate crimes. The South African Human Rights Commission recently stated that 68% of equality complaints received by the Commission for the period 1 April 2015 to 29 February 2016 have been on the basis of race.
