Minister Jeff Radebe briefs media on state of readiness to host 21st International Aids conference, 17 Jul

State of readiness media briefing by the IMC on the 21st International Aids conference

The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) of the 21st International AIDS conference chaired by Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe will host a state of readiness media briefing. 

The #AIDS2016 Conference will take place from 18 to 22 July 2016 at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban under the theme of the 2016 Conference, “Access Equity Rights Now”.

Members of the media are invited to attend the briefing as follows

Time: 12h00 – 13h00
Venue: Durban ICC, Media Briefing Centre

Sunday, 17 July 2016 will mark the final day countdown to the 21st International AIDS Conference. Government calls on all congregations to support the conference by the following proposed activities:-

  1. To wear red, white and black clothing to support the countdown to the AIDS conference.
  2. To display placards, posters, condoms, candles, balloons (red, white and black) at places of worship and sports facilities.
  3. Congregations will be encouraged to light candles throughout their service in support of the conference.
  4. A special 10-minute dedication message to be shared.

The colours symbolise the following:

Red: Awareness and support for those living with HIV and AIDS.

White: A beacon of hope in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Black: A symbol of honour and remembrance for all those who passed on due to the pandemic.
