Minister Mkhize to address Dialogue on Repositioning Home Affairs

The Minister of Home Affairs, Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize, will on Tuesday, 11 July 2017, address a Dialogue on the Repositioning of Home Affairs to be held in Pretoria.

Currently, the Department of Home Affairs is only able to deliver against part of its mandate because of historical constraints. The repositioning therefore is necessitated by a legacy of legislation, funding, security, systems and capacity that is not aligned with the needs of a sovereign, democratic state. As positioned, the Department cannot deliver against its full mandate as a critical enabler of inclusive development, national security, effective service delivery and efficient administration.

On 01 March 2017, Cabinet approved the proposed measures set out in the business case to reposition the Department and, consequently, a discussion paper was made available for public discussion and engagement in April 2017.

Key stakeholders in the policy-making field are expected to attend the Dialogue.
