Minister Faith Muthambi takes part in Take a Girl Child to Work Day campaign

Minister of Communications exposes Vuwani school learners to the world of work

Minister of Communications Ms Faith Muthambi on Thursday 26th May 2016, took school children from Vuwani villages, Limpopo to her work place as part of the Take a Girl Child to Work Day campaign. Minister Muthambi was joined by six girls, and one boy from Vuwani.

“These learners want to have a full grasp of our mandate as the Department of Communications, and our intention to provide universal access to information and communications,” said Muthambi.

The 2016 Take a Girl Child to Work Day takes place in a year when South Africa is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Women’s march to the Union Buildings to protest against the extension of pass laws to women.

The learners used this opportunity to denounce vandalism of schools in and around villages in Vuwani. “We plead with community members to stop burning our schools, they are destroying our future,” said the learners.

As part of on-going work by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Vuwani, Minister Muthambi has led a series of community information sessions, in partnership with civil society and the traditional leadership in an effort to drive the back-to-school campaign in the area.
