Minister Faith Muthambi assesses progress of set-top-box installation in Keimos, 26 Feb

Minister of Communications Ms Faith Muthambi will on Friday 26th of February 2016 will revisit the Keimos area in the Northern Cape to get a first-hand progress update on the installation of the set-top-boxes. Keimos is located in the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), where the world's largest radio telescope will be built. Last year December, Minister Muthambi launched the first installation of government subsidised set-top-boxes to the community of Keimoes, Kai Garib Municipality in the Northern Cape.

About 76% TV viewing households have registered for government Subsidised set-top-boxes in the Northern Cape. “The community around the SKA area are now enjoying high-definition and good quality television thanks to broadcasting digital migration project,” said Muthambi.

Since the beginning of the registration process on the 1st of October 2015, the uptake of set-top-boxes is steadily gaining traction. The registration process for these devices has now spread to other provinces. “As the department we don’t just install boxes and leave. We also provide post-installation services to ensure that people are satisfied with the devices and the new offering; this is one of the requirement for this project,” added Muthambi.
