Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan met the Financial and Fiscal Commission’s commissioners and staff on Friday, 9 September. This follows anonymous allegations of impropriety concerning actions of staff members of the Commission received by the Ministry of Finance recently.
The allegations have been shared with the members of the Commission. The Commission will, with the assistance of the National Treasury, appoint an external service provider to investigate the veracity of the allegations.
Meanwhile, the term of office of Mr Bongani Khumalo as Deputy Chairperson, acting Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial and Fiscal Commission (the Commission) ended on 31 August 2016. The process of appointing a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson are underway. The Commission has decided to appoint Mr Velile Mbethe as acting Chief Executive Officer while the process for filling the position is being finalised.
