MEC Paul Mashatile on continued instability in Mogale City

MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Paul Mashatile, takes a dim view of the failure, once again, by the Mogale City Council to elect a new executive mayor as this serves to undermine the capacity of the municipality to execute its constitutional mandate of delivering services to the people of that area.

The MEC has since the last local government elections nudged all parties to place the interests of the community of Mogale City above their narrow political ones. He together with his department have consistently provided support to ensure stability as his interest is to ensure that the municipality functions optimally irrespective of which political party is in control.

It is against this backdrop that MEC Mashatile is gravely concerned by the ongoing tussle between parties and is doing everything in his power to establish normalcy.

It is within this spirit that he will be meeting, within days, all political parties represented in Mogale City Council to direct them to urgently convene to elect a new mayor as part of ensuring the municipality's compliance with relevant local government legislative prescriptions.

His displeasure notwithstanding, MEC Mashatile will in the meantime continue providing support to the municipality whilst monitoring the situation to ensure that our people are not made to bear the brunt of these unfortunate developments.
