MEC Gaolaolwe kept her promise to build houses for 4 families in Taung

At least three elderly residents of villages around Taung in Greater Taung local municipality have had their dignity restored when they were recently handed over keys to their new house, all thanks to the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima.

One of the beneficiaries, Joseph Moreetsi (76) has lived in a mud house that he shared with his wife, Sylvia, for most of his life. “I used to live in fear knowing that this mud house might fall on us at any given time. There was a time after it had rained heavily early this year that when we woke to find part of the house had fallen’’, he recalled.  Other beneficiaries, France Saku (88), Motladilelo Kgautle (94) and  Mosipidi Semino (47) also received keys to their new houses.

The MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe, said government has a responsibility to provide quality and decent houses to anyone who qualifies as a beneficiary, especially, elderly and people living with disability. ‘“This is part of igniting the Madiba spirit of generosity and selflessness as we have entered the Mandela month”, she said.
