Deputy Minister Buti Manamela wishes Matric learners well in exams

Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Youth Development and Administration, Mr Buti Manamela has wished all South African Matriculants well in their final examinations. The class of 2016 will write their Matric exams as from Wednesday, 19 October 2016.

The 2016 Matric examination will commence in the midst of student protests for free education. Deputy Minister Manamela encourages students not be negatively affected by the protests but to focus on passing.

"We acknowledge that some students may have concerns about their future in higher education due to funding challenges, but we encourage them to work hard in their exams and not be deterred by other things," said Deputy Minister Manamela.

The National Development Plan recognises education, training and innovation as key elements in eliminating poverty and reducing equality. Therefore learners should take every opportunity to access education and training with vigour.

In considering options for further education and training, learners should consider studying at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. These colleges offer courses for practical skills development including technical skills that are needed for our economic growth.

The hard work that has been put in throughout the year by all the educators to prepare the learners for this final step in basic education will bear much fruit.

Well wishes for exams. Let us make education fashionable!
