Minister Lindiwe Zulu and Premier David Mabuza host International Cooperatives Day, 1 to 2 Jul

Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu and Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza and the leadership of the cooperatives movement will host International Cooperatives Day on 1 and 2 July 2016 in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The event will also be attended by Ministers responsible for cooperatives development from neighbouring countries.

Cooperatives from across the entire country and those aspiring to establish their own co-operatives will participate and share ideas on how the sector can be grown as a force of economic and social inclusion.

Government and its partners will use the two days to obtain feedback from its stakeholders on challenges confronting co-operatives in the country and to identify opportunities that can be seized to promote the development and sustainability of cooperatives.

The International Day of Co-operatives is an annual celebration of the co-operative movement observed on the first Saturday of July since 1923 by the International Co-operative Alliance. This year’s celebration is held under the theme: Co-operatives: The power to act for a sustainable future.

Government sees cooperatives as vehicles for economic development, democratic economic participation and redistribution of wealth.
