MEC Ismail Vadi on temporary road closure of N12 near Lenasia/Eldorado Park

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, has issued a traffic advisory notifying all motorists that the N12 freeway at the Kliptown/Samfur bridge near Lenasia/Eldorado Park will be temporarily closed between 6h00 and 14h00 on Saturday, 11 February 2017. Work on the section of the freeway will probably continue on Sunday, 12 February as well.

This is due to major construction work being undertaken on the bridgehead on East Road, including the removal of the bridge’s beams.

“Motorists using the N12 are advised to take an alternative route over the coming weekend as major construction will be undertaken on East Road, which runs over the N12,” said Vadi.

The 60 year old bridge was structurally damaged a year ago when an overloaded truck hit its beams.

Motorists are advised to make use of the Golden Highway, which runs parallel to the N12, as an alternative route.

Vadi also said the N12 will be temporarily closed on the following Saturday, 18 February 2017 from 6h00 to 14h00, for the installation of replacement beams on the bridge.

The Department of Roads and Transport apologises for the inconvenience to motorists saying that this is in the interest of road safety and maintaining a good road network in the province.
