Labour on Workers' Month

Department of Labour turn the spotlight to workers during Workers' Month

In commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Month, the acting provincial head of the Department of Labour, Nomfundo Douw-Jack, will be interacting and sharing information with workers about the services of the Department.

Flanked by her provincial management team, Ms. Douw-Jack will pay a special visit to a number of factories between 12H00 and 14H00 in Bloemfontein to engage workers during this important calendar month.  This visit will be followed by an awareness campaign at Central Park bus station and taxi ranks within the Bloemfontein Central Business District.

The two provincial events will follow the official launch of the month-long countrywide programme. This launch was led by none other than the Minister of the Department of Labour, Hon. Mildred Oliphant, on the 25 April 2017.  Taking the cue from this National programme, these two events will then kick-start a series of provincial commemorative activities which will spread to other regions within the Free State province.

Of critical importance to note is that the Department will strive to stay true to the spirit and the focal point of this month, and attend to nobody but workers themselves.  To that effect, all will be done to ensure that a substantial number of workers from different sectors of our economy are reached.

Post this series of events planned for the Workers Month, Ms. Douw-Jack together with her team will ensure that all issues raised are followed up.  “Workers are, in the main, the reason for our being here as the Department.  We therefore ought to do all in our powers to ensure that they are aware of their rights and the services available for them and how to access such services”, she said.
