Labour on submission of Employment Equity reports

Department of Labour roadshow highlights the number of employers who reported for Employment Equity in 2016

A total of 26,255 employers appeared in the public register after submitting their Employment Equity reports to the Department of Labour in 2016, a meeting was told in East London on Tuesday.
 
In the Eastern Cape, 1384 employers made it on the register , Lucia Rayner, of the Employment Equity Directorate, told about 300 people attending the roadshow to strengthen implication and compliance. She said the Eastern Cape figures was 5% of the national statistic and represented 369,000 employees.
 
Rayner said it was important for employers to have Employment Equity Plans to indicate the implementation programme to achieve equitable representation and fair treatment of the designated groups across all levels in the work places.
 
The Employment Equity Plan addresses barriers to fair employment practices through remedial measures and the implementation of policies, procedures and practices.
 
The roadshows, which are being held under the theme  "real transformation makes business sense” continue tomorrow in Port Elizabeth at the Pine lodge Hotel – Marine Drive, Summersrand.

The national, annual workshops started on 11 July in Kimberley. Workshops have been held in Rustenburg, Nelspruit, Thohoyandou, Polokwane, Bloemfontein, Richards Bay and Durban.

More workshops are to be held in the Western Cape, George (22 August) and Cape Town (24 August); Gauteng, Pretoria (05 September) targeting mainly government departments at national and provincial level, Ekurhuleni (06 & 08 September), and Vaal (07 September) targeting mainly municipalities.

The Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has partnered with the Department of Labour to share information on the status of employment equity case study.

The workshops are targeting: human resources executives and practitioners; EE Forum members; assigned senior EE managers/transformation managers; academics and trade unions among others.

The EE workshops are held from 08:30-14:00.

The EE Online and Manual reporting season opens on 01 September 2017.
