Commission for Gender Equality sends condolences to Garesape family

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) joins other South Africans in offering its heartfelt condolences to the family of Kutlwano Garesape family. The death of Kutlwano Garesape who died at the hands of an alleged rapist who wanted to rape his mother whilst walking her kids to school should not be in vain.

South Africans united in our diversity should remember the heroics of Kutlwano Garesape and ensure that gender based violence and other related crimes are eradicated in our society.

The Commission under the leadership of Mr. Tshepo Nosi in the Northern Cape Province has visited the family of Kutlwano Garesape in Jan Kempdorp to console and offer condolences to the family during this dark moment. The Killing of Kutlwano Garesape is such a cowardly and a barbaric act that CGE will never tolerate, therefore the Commission is urging the Criminal Justice System to impose the harshest sentence possible.

We are particularly disappointed that this incident happened during the women’s month, as the Commission will continue through our outreach programmes and legal clinics to raise awareness about the scourge of gender based violence and violence against women.

The Commission for Gender Equality calls upon the community of Jan Kempdorp and Taung where Kutlwano Garesape was buried over the weekend to raly behind the family and offer them support. The CGE will monitor the case and ensure that there is justice for Kutlwano Garesape and his mother. People can use our Toll Free Number 0800 007 709 to report cases of gender based violence.
