MEC Ismail Vadi appeals for patience during road rehabilitation and construction projects throughout the province

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport wishes to appeal to motorists to exercise patience due to traffic inconveniences caused by road rehabilitation and construction projects throughout the province.

MEC Ismail Vadi said that “the Department is mindful of the traffic inconvenience caused to motorists and we appeal for patience, courtesy, consideration during this period.

MEC Vadi indicated that there are a number of road rehabilitation projects at various stages of construction and urges caution when approaching or using roads still under construction.

“We call on motorists to familiarise themselves with planned lane reductions or road closures during off-peak and peak times, plan their routes in advance to avoid delays and consider alternative routes,” Vadi said.

The following are some of the major provincial routes under construction/rehabilitation:

  • The R28 between Sebokeng and Westonaria;
  • The Cedar Road in Fourways;
  •  The William Nicol Drive (P79-1) in Fourways;
  • The P46/1 (K89) between Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni;
  • The R42 road between Nigel and Heidelberg;
  • The D1944 road Rust De Winter, North East Pretoria:
  • The Rose Road (D904) in Sedibeng;
  • The R513 (D670 road) between Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala;
  • The R511 towards the Gauteng/North West border; and
  • The N14 between Diepsloot and Brakfontein.

The main objectives for undertaking these multi-million road projects include offering an improved user capacity and safety, enhancing driving experience and shorten travel times.

The road network serves to improve market accessibility and productivity, ensuring balanced regional economic development, creating employment, promoting labour mobility and connecting communities.
