Hand over of sport equipment and playing attire
The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Me Mathabo Leeto will be handing over Sport Equipment and Attire to 50 Sport Clubs and 12 Sport Hubs. This programme is aimed at affording youth & senior citizens with resources in order to grant equal opportunities to all our people irrespective of their background. As a Department, it remains our objective to unlock all the potential talent across the Free State Province. The affected codes are as follows:
- Basketball X 10 Clubs
- Cricket X 10 Clubs
- Netball X 10 Clubs
- Boxing X 10 Clubs and
- Volleyball X 10 Clubs
The handover will take place as follows:

Time: 13:00
Venue: Seisoville Hall, Maokeng, Kroonstad
The second programme is the Siyadlala Mass Participation where 12 Hubs have been identified in order to roll out the implementation of activities such as Indigenous Games, Senior Citizens, Bid Walk, Youth Camp and Aerobics.
The following facilities have been identified by the Department as Hubs:
- Fezile Dabi: Heilbron in Thusong Centre and Viljoenskroon at the Outdoor Gym.
- Lejweleputswa: Bultfontein in Phahameng Stadium and Hertzogville in Malebogo Stadium.
- Mangaung Metropolitan: Mangaung Outdoor Centre and Mmabana Stadium.
- Thabo Mofutsanyana: Bethlehem in Bohlokong Stadium and QwaQwa in Thibela Stadium and lastly
- Xhariep: Edenburg in Closed grounds next to Albertina School and Zastron in Matlakeng Stadium.
This comes as a result of the pronouncements made by MEC Leeto when delivering her 2017/18 Budget Vote; in this regard MEC Leeto stated that, “A new integrated model around Sport Hubs will be developed. We will robustly engage municipalities to avail sport facilities for communities. It is a fact that stadiums in communities were established for the benefit of communities. We will engage with municipalities for the sport facilities in municipalities to be transformed into sport hubs”.
