Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu responds to gender based violence for people with disabilities
The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, will on Saturday, November 26, take disability rights awareness month to Mawewe village in Mpumalanga Province.
This forms part of the Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) which takes place annually from November 3 until December 3 and this year's DRAM is guided by the theme; “Persons with disabilities – Equal participants in shaping a sustainable future.”
The aim of the campaign is to increase awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities as equal citizens. The campaign also seeks to accelerate equal access to socio-economic opportunities for persons with disabilities by making information available and accessible.
The event will mark the fourth week of DRAM which will be focusing on protecting and upholding the rights of persons with disabilities, especially, women and girl children who experience gender based violence.
From 25 November, until 10 December; South Africa will join the citizens of the world to commemorate 16 Days of No Violence against Women and Children; an international campaign which encourage all around the world to end violence against women and girls.
