Gauteng Legislature hosts Youth Development Programmes public meeting, 27 Feb

Gauteng Social Development Committee Focus Intervention Study Roundtable Discussion on evaluation of Youth Development Programmes

Led by Honourable Chairperson, Thuliswa Nkabinde, the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Social Development will this Saturday convene a Focus Intervention Study (FIS) Roundtable Discussion on the Evaluation of Youth Development Programmes. The FIS emanates from the Annual Report of the Department of Social Development for 2014/15 Financial Year.

The Portfolio Committee is hosting the FIS Roundtable Discussion to assess the extent to which existing programmes contribute towards youth development; as well as identify areas of improvement or policy intervention where necessary. The Committee has identified current and former beneficiaries from the: Metropolitan Evangelical Services (MES Youth Development-situated in Hillbrow); Abraham Kriel Emdeni Skills Development Centre (Soweto); Southern Africa Youth Project (Diepsloot Extension 10); and Bokamoso Youth Centre (Wineburg).

The public meeting is scheduled as follows:

The Portfolio Committee has invited the Gauteng Department of Social Development to present present on existing Youth Development Centres and the services they provide. The Committee will also visit and evaluate the South African Youth Project in Diepsloot. The initiatives are part of the Portfolio Committee’s implementation of its oversight and public participation mandates; and also contribute to GPL’s efforts of ‘Taking the Legislature to the people’.
