In insuring the equitable access, development and excellent at all levels the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation continues with its sport and recreational programmes taking place this week from 24-27 November 2016.

Event: District School Sports Awards

Gauteng Department of Sport,Arts,Culture and Recreation School together with the Gauteng Department of Education embarked on the creation of the Educational District and encourages school to reflect and continuously improve .

Event: Hub Tournament

The aims of the event is  to promote Participation in Sports, to develop and establish clubs in our community, to sustain all community clubs, to identify talent and nurture it, to promote healthy lifestyle and to reduce crime, teenage pregnancies alcohol and substance abuse.

Event: Rural Sport Programme

The aim of the event is to revive Sports and unearth in the rural areas with special focus on areas that are under the Traditional Authorities and farms. Enhance the level of performance of talented athletes and coaches by creating a platform for continuous participation up to the national levels.

Enhance the education of individuals and groups by means of training opportunies to coaches, administrator and technical officials. Ensure that quality coaching is provided to talented athletes.

Event: Disability Tournament

The event is aimed to increase the awareness about the rights of the persons with disability as equal citizens among the society in general. And to promote awareness of the capabilities and contribution of persons with disability and fosters and promote networking among persons with disability.

Sport and Recreation promotes sport and recreation programmes in the province, from mass-based recreational programmes, School sport; Sport development; and Competitive sport. Among others these are meant to promote healthy lifestyle, sport development, talent identification and to provide a platform for high performance in building champions.

Other successful programmes include Golden games; Soweto Marathon; Learn to swim, sport wards, future champions, attire and equipment distribution and Funding through the Grant in Aid programme.
