Gauteng Health on South Rand Hospital

No waiting list at South Rand Hospital

The Gauteng Department of Health wishes to put it on record that South Rand Hospital has no long waiting list. The current number of patients waiting for surgery at the said Hospital is about seventeen (17) patients.

It is imperative to acknowledge that there are 79 scheduled surgeries deferred or cancelled from January 2015 to September 2016, due to low haemoglobin, patients who ate, not showing up for treatment and repairing of G-scope machine.

Dr Ubabukho

Claims that Dr Ubabukho is still listed as a doctor on call when he is currently in Canada are not true, the doctor is not on the South Rand Hospital Medical Officers Call Roster for October 2016.

Mckinsey Services

The Gauteng MEC for Health Qedani Mahlangu informed that, “in an effort to improve services, we have been working with Mckinsey Incorporated South Africa. The said company provides various consultancy services and IT solutions that include Electronic Bed Management, Facilitation of Strategic Planning Sessions and Electronic Document Management".

For two years, the Department has been using the services of this company (ranging between September 2014 and September 2016).  However, in 2015 the department did not make use of the company’s services.

To date, the department has spent over R7 million on the services that the company provide.

Medical Supply Depot

There are about four officials who were based at the Medical Supply Depot (MSD) implicated on corruption. The said affected employees, were suspended for a period of not less than 18 months without subjecting to a disciplinary hearing in line with the Labour Relations Act. “We, took legal advice on the matter which resulted in the affected employees being given a final written warning. We continue to be concern about allegations of fraud and corruption,” added MEC Mahlangu

Life Esidimeni

Finally, we are inundated with requests for more statistical information about the Life Esidimeni deaths and other related information and as such we continue to cooperate with the Office of the Health Ombudsman. We await for completion of their investigation before we engage further on this matter. The department appeals to all stakeholders to afford the Ombudsman an opportunity to complete the said investigation accordingly.
