Freedom Park launches International Storytelling Festival, 7 Mar

The Chief Executive Officer of Freedom Park, Ms Jane Mufamadi invites media to the launch of the International Storytelling Festival to be held on Monday 7 March 2016 at 9h00. The Deputy Minister of the Department of Arts and Culture Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, and the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Kgosientso Ramokgopa are expected to attend.

The theme of the festival is: Land, Unity and Prosperity: Ungasali. The festival aims to strengthen the country’s cultural exchange programs with the partnering countries for the purpose of growing the arts, culture and heritage industry and to contribute to the scholarship of the oral narrative. 

This is for the third time that Ungasali storytelling festival takes place at Freedom Park. Storytelling is an integral part of learning and teaching in the Basic Education system. It has long been proven that storytelling enhances academic ability of learners and assists in strengthening their emotional being. In the festival learners will acquire storytelling, performance and presentation skills.

A series of activities will make up the festival and will roll out throughout the week leading to 12 March 2016. Included in these activities are academic paper presentations and discussions, teachers and librarian workshops, prison performances, visit to orphanage institutions, and performances at Freedom Park.
