As part of Freedom Month events, Freedom Park will host an Intergenerational Dialogue on the 30 April 2016. It will present a platform where young people will interface directly with freedom stalwarts. The dialogue will endeavour to reaffirm the role of the youth in building a united, democratic, non-racial and non-sexist South Africa.
Through this dialogue young people will learn what it took to attain the freedom and how they can confront challenges and nourish the hard won freedom we now enjoy today.
The dialogue will explore and unpack the values of freedom by the leaders throughout the different epochs of the struggle for humanity and freedom. The youth will also be exposed to history, in particular, the role played by heroes and heroines in the struggle for national liberation.
It will provide an opportunity for the youth of all races to talk about their understanding and experience of freedom, encouraging them to air their views on the question of freedom vs race while also providing recommended solutions.
The dialogue will also afford an opportunity for all South Africans to rally together to fight against poverty and xenophobia, taking into account lessons learnt in the recent past where several foreign nationals where attacked in some townships.
Furthermore, the dialogue will strive to provide an opportunity for the youth to look closely at themselves and their role in promoting social cohesion and nation building.
The dialogue also aims to motivate the youth to heighten their passion and patriotism for their country and to inspire them about the need for quality contribution towards a common national vison for the development of the country.
The Intergenerational Dialogue is in-line with the values espoused in the Freedom Charter and the Constitution, which give direction to the achievement of freedoms and transformation of our country into one which is truly shared by its entire people - black and white - a free country which in its fullest sense belongs to all those who live in it, black and white, women and men.
