Labour conducts career exhibitions for work-seekers and local advocacy sessions for employers, 7 to 10 Feb

Under the auspices of the Department of Labour, public employment services reaches out to employers and work-seekers

In a quest to quell the Free State unemployment rate, the northern part of the province will be a bee-hive of activities as the Department of Labour, together with its strategic stakeholders, will be conducting Career Exhibitions for work-seekers and Local Advocacy Sessions for employers in the region.

This will be a four-day event which will be sealed on a high note with a Community Outreach Campaign on the fourth day.

Through these exhibitions, work-seekers will be taken through a variety of career opportunities in the labour market. The advocacy campaign on the other hand will provide employers and other key stakeholders with a platform to interact and deliberate upon the services of the Department of Labour, those offered by the Public Employment Services unit in particular.

The event will pay special attention on finding ways to facilitate the relationship between work-seekers and various companies for job opportunities.  This four-day event will further focus on the following:

  • Employment Counseling
  • Career Information
  • Marketing Public Employment Services to Employers and
  • Registration of work-seekers

Coupled with these career exhibitions will be a robust work-seeker registration drive which is aimed at registering as many work-seekers as possible on the Department of Labour database called Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA).

ESSA is a system which has been developed to register work seekers and work opportunities that have been supplied by employers looking for workers.  ESSA is therefore an automated matching platform where work-seekers are matched with available opportunities.

Public Employment Services (PES) provides the employment services free of charge to members of the public and employers alike.  The PES bus, a bus fitted with computers and the necessary technology, will also be utilised to register work-seekers online.

The series of events will take place as follows:

  • 7 February 2017, Ventersburg, Career Exhibitions at Mmamahabane Community Hall and Employer Advocacy Session at Mmamahabane Library
  • 8 February 2017, Bothaville, Career Exhibitions at Boneni Community Hall and Employer Advocacy Session at Kgotsong Library
  • 9 February 2017, Kroonstad, Career Exhibitions at Allen Rottenbach Town Hall and Employer Advocacy Session at Moqhaka Local Municipality
  • 10 February 2017, Koppies, Community Outreach Campaign at Kwakwatsi Community Hall

All these career exhibitions will run concurrently with employer advocacy sessions and both will start from 9h00 – 13h00
