Water and Sanitation consults water users and stakeholders on pricing for raw water charges, 5 to 7 Jul

DWS and IUCMA consult water users on raw water pricing

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) will be consulting water users and stakeholders on the pricing for raw water charges on 05 and 07 July 2017. The consultation sessions will take place at Waterside Lodge in Mkhondo on 05 July 2017 and in Promenade Hotel in the Mbombela on 07 July 2017.

In terms of Section 56, of the National Water Act, Act 36 of 1998 the Minister may, with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance, from time to time by notice in the Government Gazette, establish a pricing strategy for any water use within the framework of existing relevant government policy. The Minister as mandated by the National Water Act, from Sections 56-60 requires the Department of Water and Sanitation to establish a pricing for raw water charges. The water use charges are crucial for the funding of water resource development as well as achieving the equitable and efficient allocation of water.

The budget planning and price setting cycle objective is to ensure that the Water Trading Entity (WTE) and internal stakeholders understand the impact of estimated costs versus revenue estimates and constantly improves on the uniformity of budget preparation by using relevant policy and guiding documents. Budgets and charges are determined by both Catchment Management Agencies and Operational Cluster offices.

All affected persons and institutions are encouraged to participate in the consultation process.
