Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visits Public Employment Programmes in Whittlesea, 9 Jun

In his capacity as Chairperson of the Public Employment Programme - Inter-Ministerial Committee (PEP-IMC) and champion of Public Employment Programmes (PEPs), Deputy President  Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday, 9 June 2017 visit PEPs in Whittlesea, Eastern Cape.

Deputy President Ramaphosa will interact with  Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) participants and visit sites with a view to assessing the impact of the programme in terms of alleviating poverty and providing employment to the people of the Eastern Cape.

Public Employment Programmes are implemented under the auspices of the EPWP and provide training and short- to medium-term work opportunities for  unskilled, poor and unemployed South Africans.

Led by the Deputy President, the PEP-IMC comprises various Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Directors-General who are responsible for public employment programmes. The committee provides high-level leadership to achieve better synergy among PEPs and to ensure that government achieves its target of creating 6 million work opportunities by 2019.

The visit will unfold as follows:

NB: Public Participation Programme led by the Deputy President will be held at Sada Sport Ground in Whittlesea at 11h30.
