Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to engage with Members of Parliament
Deputy President and Leader of Government Business will today, Wednesday 14 June 2017, engage with Members of Parliament in the National Assembly by answering his last Oral Questions in this second term of Parliament.
The Deputy President, President Jacob Zuma and all Members of the Executive continue to meet their Constitutional mandate of accounting to Parliament through, among others, the mechanism of Parliamentary Questions.
The Deputy President is expected to reflect on efforts to strengthen state-owned enterprises in line with recommendations of the Presidential Review Commission on state-owned enterprises with a view to improving governance, stabilise finances, increase productivity and ensure they contribute to the country’s developmental agenda.
In particular, coming against the background of recent high levels of violence against women and children that have occupied the attention of the nation recently, Deputy President Ramaphosa is also expected to reassure to the nation of measures underway through various ministries and civil society to eliminate violence against women and children. These are anchored on the Integrated Plan of Action to fight Gender-based Violence.
He will further assure Parliament that government remains committed to rebuilding trust among social partners and social cohesion in our communities.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is also called upon to reflect on the successes of the recently-held World Economic Forum (Africa) and its impact on challenges including poverty, under-development and inequality facing the country and indeed the entire African continent.
