Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa attends Limpopo Economic Summit, 4 Nov

Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa will attend Limpopo Economic Summit on the 4 November 2016, Polokwane. Limpopo Premier, Stanley Mathabatha, Members of the Executive Council and Mayors will also be in attendance.

The Limpopo Provincial Government is hosting the Economic Summit in an effort to stimulate the economy and create sustainable jobs for the people of the province.

The Summit will be held under theme “An Industrialisation Path towards creating sustainable Jobs and Poverty Reduction for Limpopo Province”.  

The Summit will bring together various government departments, State-Owned Entities (SOEs) and the business sector into deliberations with the aim of improving on the economic diversification and sustainability of the province. The summit will have a strategic review of the Limpopo Development Plan Implementation Plan, Infrastructure Budget priorities over the next three years (2017-19 period), and Industrialisation Implementation Plan and strategic projects such as Musina-Makhado SEZ.  

Cabinet has since ratified Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This SEZ is anchored through an investment of over R40 billion in the Energy and Metallurgical Cluster. The implementation of various projects over the next five year is expected to create over 21 000 jobs. Limpopo province has already commenced with detailed feasibility study on a various strategic projects on the enabling infrastructure provision to support the implementation of this SEZ.

The Economic Summit was preceded by sector working groups focusing on mineral beneficiation, agro-processing, Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives development, ICT and Knowledge Economy, and Economic Infrastructure development, and youth development. The Summit will discuss and review recommendation from these Working Groups as a basis for adopting a detailed Limpopo Industrialisation Action Plan Programme towards Job Creation and Poverty Reduction.
