Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga hosts UN Global Road Safety week campaign, 13 May

Transport Deputy Minister takes the UN Global Road Safety Week’s #SlowDownZA campaign from Tembisa to Vosloorus

Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, will join bikers, cyclists, car spinners, drifters, racers, scholar transport users, taxi associations and the interfaith community as they drive in a motorcade from Tembisa to Vosloorus via R21 in support of the #SlowDownZA campaign on Saturday, 13 May 2017.

The campaign is part of the United Nations Global Road Safety Week running from 08-14 May 2017.

It was launched by Deputy Minister Chikunga on Monday in KwaZulu-Natal.

The UN Global Road Safety Week seeks to increase an understanding of the dangers of speed and generate action on measures to address speed management.

Speed continues to be one of the leading causes of road crashes.

The campaign will end with a Top 4 Soccer and Netball tournament played by the road users. This tournament will take place at Vosloorus stadium.

The matches will also be used to pledge support for the #SlowDownZA campaign.

Saturday event has been organized by the agency of the Department of Transport, The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) in partnership with Kasi Road Safety and City of Ekurhuleni.
