Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga hosts leaners from all high schools in Barberton during Mandela Day, 18 to 19 Jul

Transport Deputy Minister invests in education during Mandela Day  

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga will spend the Mandela Day on Tuesday, 18 August 2017 hosting learners from all the high schools in Barberton, Mpumalanga.

During their time with Deputy Minister Chikunga, the pupils will be oriented about the career and bursary opportunities made available in the transport sector by the Department of Transport and its agencies.

Ms Chikunga will also give the learners a two-day tour that will include site visits at the Gautrain headquarters, SANRAL’s Central Operation Centre, PRASA’s rail infrastructure, O.R Tambo International Airport and the training academies of the Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) and the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

The aim of the site visits is to equip the learners with a thorough knowledge of the transport modes such as public transport, roads, aviation and rail.

Learners will be flown from the Kruger International Airport in Mpumalanga to O.R Tambo Airport so that they can experience traveling via air transport for the first time.

They will also get to travel from O.R Tambo Airport to the Gautrain Headquarters in Midrand using a Gautrain.
