Transport Deputy Minister Launches SANWIT in North West

Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga and North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Dr Mpho Motlhabane will launch the Provincial Chapter of the South African Network for Women in Transport (SANWIT) in the North West province on Monday, 14 August 2017.

The launch of the North West SANWIT Provincial Chapter will be the first of its kind in the province. This initiative aims to to uplift, empower and foster the transformation agenda of women in the transport sector in the North West province.

Elections will also be held to elect the provincial leadership structures of SANWIT. These elections will be presided over by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Deputy Minister Cikunga and MEC Motlhabane will be joined by the National Chairperson of SANWIT, Ms Mary Phadi and key transport stakeholders during the launch.

This initiative was established in order to create a platform to deliberate on issues that affect women and how women empowerment will be achieved within the transport sector. Additionally, the Empowerment Programme aims to address challenges and celebrate the achievements of women in the sector.

Among others, SANWIT aims to create dialogue, listen to and address key issues affecting women in the transport sector.
