Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga addresses civil aviation industry conference, 11 Oct

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga MP, will deliver a Keynote Address at a conference that will be debating ways to fast track the growth and development of the civil aviation industry in South Africa and the continent.

Other key figures include the heads of aviation organisations, chief executives, an economist, aviation and business specialists as well as high-ranking government officials.

The deliberations will be held over two days and under the banner of the second and biennial Aviation Industry Growth Conference organised by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

During the conference discussions will centre on, among others, how African governments can strengthen macroeconomic policies that support the aviation industry. There will also be dialogue on how Africa can take full advantage of technology and also accelerate aerospace manufacturing technology. Delegates will also hear about emerging trends that will shape the future of aviation as well as tips on how to finance aviation operations.
Other topics include a look at:

  • whether the single African aviation market is achievable;
  • opportunities and barriers in the African aviation market;
  • The need to invest in infrastructure as well as related opportunities on the continent; and
  •  What needs to be done in order to ensure a sufficient, suitably qualified, and sustainable pool of skills.
