Deputy Minister Maphatsoe leads South African Cape Corps Military Veterans Association conference, 29 Aug

The Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Mr Kebby Maphatsoe, will lead the South African Cape Corps Military Veterans Association (SACCMVA) elective and unity conference in the Western Cape. This first ever conference of its kind since 1994, which will see more than 300 Military Veterans, from across the province and from their various formations, namely, the SACCMVA participate in the conference.

The leadership of the Department of Military Veterans’ will address issues of unity amongst members of SACCMVA as well as making sure that a credible leadership is elected to lead the organisation. The lack of unity amongst the South African Cape Corps military veterans’ was noted, including the existence of perceived splinter groupings.

Deputy Minister Maphatsoe, will also deal with challenges of Military Veterans from both non-statutory and statutory forces, who are faced with challenges such as access to housing, education support, healthcare and other benefits which will be addressed by the Department of Military Veterans.

The conference seeks to also build partnerships between the government, business and Military Veterans as represented by their Associations. It will serve as a platform to create a much needed engagement with the Military Veterans constituency on issues that will assist the Department to deliver services and benefits better. It is expected that the conference will deliver a galvanised, united and active SACCMVA, a successful implementation of their Program of Action, the Constitution for the formation and a consolidation of relations with South African National Military Veterans Association (SANMVA) and other military veterans’ formations.
