Limpopo Education provides accommodation for needy learners

The department helps learners from Mpepule to access education in conducive condition

Learners of Mpepule Primary School near Lephalale were placed in different schools in the Waterberg District in a bid to help them access teaching and learning in conducive environment. The learners were also relocated to proper accommodation.

The 13 learners of parents staying in farms around the school joined the other 15 from Hoopdal Primary School of Thabazimbi town and were accommodated at the Klein-Rusternburg where they were transported to schools on the first day of schooling today. Transport will also continue to be provided for these learners to schools.

The accommodation allocated to them has all facilities including the kitchen, toilets for girls and those for boys and they were allocated beds in this facility. There are also officials to take care of house chores. The facility was also visited by the Human Rights Commission today to gauge the appropriateness and the commission is satisfied.

On the other hands, the remaining learners who come from the Shongoana villages were also allocated space in local schools. The decision to relocate learners from Mpepule and Hoopdaal has been taken in the interest and for the benefit of the learners. The department consulted all stakeholders including teachers and the School Governing Bodies (SGBs) of the two schools and reached consensus - all for the benefit of the learners.

The Department has noted that there were some parents who took some learners from Shongoane to the school demanding that they also are accommodated at the Klein-Rusternbug, also referred as Little-Rusternburg. These parents are encouraged to allow their kids to go to the allocated schools.

Parents are also encouraged not to disturb the future of their children by denying them the Right to Education and contact the Department should they like to raise their views on the running of schools.  The Department will continue to provide support to these learners and those in other schools around the Province.
