Department of Correctional Services, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day and the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted an event today at Drakenstein Correction Centre to break the world record for the largest crouched blanket.
Hardly two hours into the event, howling wind caused the canvas to blow off the marquee and parts of the metal structure collapsed.
Approximately five attendees including four inmates and a member of the public at the event sustained minor injuries and are currently being treated by medical staff on site. The joint organisers wish those injured a speedy recovery.
An investigation will be conducted.
