IMC thanks voters for successful and peaceful elections in Nquthu

The last part of the puzzle has finally fallen into place, with the by-elections done, the remaining Nquthu Local Municipal Umzinyathi District Municipality will finally be able to constitute themselves bringing to an end challenges that were experienced since 03 August 2016 local government elections.

Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), honourable Des van Rooyen, thanked the registered voters in Nquthu who went out on 24 May to make their voices heard by casting their ballot in the by-elections.

This demonstration of active citizenship and patriotism was indeed made clear by the voters who came in their numbers to cast their ballots. We recognise all those who stood in long lines and those who were visited in their homes as part of the special voting process. “The tolerance, dignity and patience with which voters conducted themselves as they waited to cast their ballots is commendable and will go a long way to strengthen our democracy”, said Minister van Rooyen.

Speaking after the successful elections in Nquthu, Minister van Rooyen commended security agencies, other government departments and spheres of government for their hard work and dedication over the past few weeks and days towards the by-elections.

The positive spirit with which the political parties conducted themselves during the elections is important and exemplary and the Minister commended them for the way in which they commanded their followers to ensure successful elections.

The work of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) continues to move our country forward and strengthen democracy and Minister commended this important institution for the smooth running of the by-elections in Nquthu.  

We appreciate the comprehensive coverage of our elections by the national and international media and affirm the positive role of the media in strengthening and enhancing our democracy.

“This by-elections was yet an indication of the maturity of our democracy and another important milestone in our country’s democratic journey. “South Africa, we thank you, for keeping our democracy strong and vibrant by casting your ballots and thus contributing to ensuring an incident free elections Nquthu conducted in a spirit of our constitutional democracy”, said Minister. 

This Minister urged the newly elected representatives to hit the ground running to ensure that the community of Nquthu receive the services they dearly deserve.
