Minister Jeff Radebe launches Collins Chabane YouthBuild School at Kwa-Dambuza, 30 Jun

NYDA in partnership with KZN Department of Social Development and Msunduzi Local Municipality launch the Collins Chabane YouthBuild School in Pietermaritzburg

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of National Planning Commission, Jeff Radebe will on 30 June 2016, launch the Collins Chabane YouthBuild School at Kwa-Dambuza in Pietermaritzburg.

Skills development is vital for the success of the National Development Plan (NDP). It is in this context that provision of programmes in engineering, construction, leadership and community service is important for the growth of the economy.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has prioritised skills development in general and technical skills training in particular as one of its Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the medium term. Thus the need to establish an institution to provide quality education, qualifications and practical training that prepares young people for the world of work.

According to NYDA CEO, Mr Khathu Ramukumba, the Collins Chabane YouthBuild School is named after the late Mr Collins Chabane to commemorate the lifelong sacrifices of a stalwart who tirelessly fought for the youth of his country. Chabane served in various leadership responsibilities including his final days as Minister of Public Service and Administration for the Republic of South Africa.  

The school aims at bringing hope to the out of school youth especially those from disadvantaged and underdeveloped community.

“The academy will serve as a powerful beacon of hope and will honor the memory of this great son of the soil who aided the transition of two institutions that had merged to form the NYDA” said Ramukumba.

Minister Radebe will deliver the keynote address accompanied by the Premier of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Mr Willies Mchunu; MEC for Social Development, Ms Wesizwe Thusi and Executive Mayor of Msunduzi Local Municipality, Cllr Chris Ndlela.
