Africa Day Celebration Through Poetry

Theme: “The Year of OR Tambo: Building a Better Africa and a Better World”

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) through its outreach unit, Centre for the Book in collaboration with the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality will host an Africa Day Celebration Through Poetry under the theme: The Year of OR Tambo: Building a Better Africa and a Better World. The event seeks to use poetry as a tool to promote unity and social cohesion among South Africans. 

The event is two folded, with the first part being a peaceful walk from Atteridgeville Community Library to the Saulsville Arean. The purpose of the walk is to promote social cohesion in Africa through libraries. The second part is a formal programme at the Saulsville Arena.

The expected participants include school learners from the surrounding areas, poets, writers, librarians, and the public. Guest poets will include Napo Masheane, Vangile Gantsho, Gaddaffi “The Poet” Mainganyi, and The Crazy Poets led by Thabang Tlaka. Poems rendered at the event will be compiled with submissions from the Atteridgeville community and will be published by the NLSA.
